FAQ

Who owns USAA?

USAA is a privately held company and is owned by its members. Unlike most corporations, which shareholders own, USAA operates under a unique structure where its products and services are only available to current or former U.S. military members and their eligible family members. As a result, the members of USAA technically own the company, and they have a say in how the company is run through their voting rights in electing the board of directors.

Is USAA a good company?

Overall, USAA has a strong reputation as a good company. As a financial institution that caters specifically to members of the U.S. military and their families, USAA is known for providing competitive products and services, exceptional customer service, and trusted advice to its members. The company has received numerous awards and accolades for its banking, insurance, and investment products and its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, USAA has a reputation for being financially stable and secure, backed by its FDIC-insured products and high ratings from independent rating agencies. While no company is perfect, USAA is generally considered a reliable and trustworthy institution by its members and industry experts alike.

Is USAA hard to get approved for?

USAA membership is generally limited to active duty, retired, or honorably separated veterans of the U.S. military, as well as their eligible family members. However, once you are eligible for membership, getting approved for USAA's products and services is generally not difficult as long as you meet the company's underwriting and eligibility requirements.

For example, suppose you apply for a USAA credit card. In that case, the approval process will typically involve a review of your full report, credit history, income, and other factors that may impact your ability to repay the debt. If you meet the credit criteria for the specific card you are applying for, your application will likely be approved. Similarly, if you apply for an auto or home insurance policy, the approval process will depend on factors such as your driving record, credit history, and other risk factors.

In general, USAA is known for its competitive rates and willingness to work with its members to find solutions that meet their individual needs and budget. So while there may be certain eligibility requirements for USAA membership, getting approved for the company's products and services is generally not difficult once you are a member.
