Residency. You must be a U.S. resident with a U.S. mailing address to apply for a Bank of America credit card.

Credit. Bank of America will evaluate your creditworthiness based on your credit score, payment history and debt-to-income ratio. Generally a higher credit score means higher approval chances.

Income. You must have a steady income to prove you can pay back any credit card debt. Bank of America may request proof of income during the application process.

Legal Capacity. You must have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract which means you cannot be under guardianship or have a legal restriction that prevents you from getting credit.

Age. You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a credit card in your name. Some cards may have a higher minimum age requirement.

If you have limited or no credit history the bank may not have enough information to evaluate your creditworthiness and may not approve your application.

Your credit score plays a big role in the approval process. If your score is below the bank’s minimum requirement for the card you’re applying for your application may be denied.

Banks look at your debt-to-income ratio which is the percentage of your monthly income that goes towards paying debts. If your ratio is too high it means you may not be able to manage additional debt and your application may be denied.

Multiple recent credit inquiries can indicate to the bank that you’re applying for credit from multiple sources which may raise concerns about your financial stability or indicate higher risk of default.

If you have a history of late payments, defaults or other negative events with Bank of America accounts it may affect your chances of approval for a new credit card.

Providing incorrect personal or financial information on your application such as income, employment status or contact information may result to automatic denial or delay in processing.

Log in to Online Banking, go to the Bill Pay tab and follow the instructions. If paying from another bank, add the account details and follow the prompts to set up payments.

Use the Transfer | Send tab in Online Banking to transfer funds from your Bank of America checking or savings account to your credit card. Select “Between My Accounts At Bank of America” and follow the instructions.

Open the Mobile Banking app, select your credit card account and choose “Make a payment”. Alternatively, use the Erica feature by tapping the icon and verbally instruct or type your payment request.

Visit any Bank of America financial center to drop off your payment or use one of our ATMs. If paying at an ATM, insert your credit card, select “Make a payment” and follow the prompts. Please note that business credit card payments are not supported at ATMs.
