Pros
Rewards are flexible. You can earn travel points, cash back or other rewards. Points don’t expire as long as your account is active so you can redeem points whenever you want.
Intro APR offer 0% for purchases and balance transfers. Most cards have 12 months intro annual percentage rate. That means for the first year you won’t pay any interest.
You earn points and miles on all purchases. Among the eligible purchases earning 3 and 2 points, you always get 1 point per $1 on all other purchases.
Fraudulent transactions protection. Free and automatic. Your bank account and credit card is secure.
Contactless payments at millions of locations. If the location you want to make a purchase at has contactless payments installed, you can use your Bank of America travel rewards credit card.
Balance Connects to avoid overdrafts. You won’t have to worry about overdraft fees, Bank of America allows you to draw even beyond your current balance.
Preferred rewards members earn more points per $1. Free to enroll. You just need to have a bank account and have at least $20,000 average daily balance for 3 months. You’ll earn 25%-75% more points per $1.
Cons
Intro APR offer ends, interest rate is variable. Your interest will be based on the Prime rate. It may drop but it has been rising lately. So your credit card will cost more over time.
You can’t boost your points or miles earnings on each card. Only some cards allow Preferred Rewards members to earn more points. If you don’t qualify for Preferred Rewards program, you can’t increase your earning base in any way.
Minimum redemption requirement. For example, Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card has a minimum redemption of 2,500 points for cash or travel.
Terms and conditions
Bank of America has travel credit cards where you can earn rewards to spend on travel.
You get travel bonus points to vacation packages and cruise lines rewards. You can apply online for cards. Standard APR is 17.74% to 27.74% variable. You need to meet these requirements to apply for the travel rewards credit cards:
Have an active checking or savings account.
Be 18 years old or 21 years old if you live in Puerto Rico.
Live in one of the 50 States, Washington D.C., APO/FPO/DPO, Guam, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa or U.S. Virgin Islands.
Note: You need at least 750 FICO score.
How to apply Bank of America travel credit card
Open credit cards page and click on “Travel Rewards”;
Choose the card you like or compare them;
Click “Apply Now” on one of the cards;
Fill in your name, address, zip code, phone number and email address;
You will need to provide financial information, SSN, bank account and employment.
Once you submit the application, Bank of America will review it. You can check the status of your credit card application on the “Credit Card Application Status” page. You will need to enter the following to verify your identity:
Last name
Date of birth
Last 4 digits of your Social Security number
ZIP code.
Click Submit to check your application status.
Bank of America will decide if you qualify and will notify you via email if approved or not. If approved, you will receive the credit card in 7-10 business days.
Bank of America Preferred Rewards
Bank of America Preferred Rewards is a program that gives higher benefits to Bank of America customers. To become a preferred rewards member, you need to have a checking account with Bank of America and enroll in the program.
There are four tiers in the Preferred Rewards program:
Gold tier is for 3 months average daily balance of $20,000 to $50,000. On credit cards, you get 25% rewards bonus and 0.05% annual fee discount for Merrill investment accounts.
Platinum tier starts from $50,000 to $100,000 for 3 months average daily balance. It gives 50% reward bonus on credit cards and 0.10% annual fee discount on Merrill investing.
Platinum Honors tier is for customers with $100,000-$1M of 3 months average daily balance. The tier gives 75% rewards bonus on credit cards and 0.15% annual fee discount on Merrill investing.
Diamond tier is for $1M-$10M of 3 months average daily balance. You get 75% reward bonus on credit cards and 0.15% annual fee discount on Merrill investing.
There is no fee to enroll in the Preferred Rewards program. To become a member, you need:
To have a Bank of America checking account. It must be open.
Have at least $20K 3 months average combined balance. It includes balances in your deposit and Merrill investment accounts.
How to Redeem Rewards
As you earn points on your Bank of America Travel Credit Card, you can redeem them for statement credit and pay for hotels, in flight purchases, vacation packages, rental cars, baggage fees and cruises. Each point is worth 1 cent.
You can also redeem for gift cards and cash back. The rate is 0.6 cents per point.
You can get cash back as a check or direct deposit to your Bank of America savings or checking account. If you have a Merrill Cash Management Account, you can get cash back there.
Bank of America has a My Rewards feature where you can log in to your account and see all your credit cards' rewards.
My Rewards allows you to:

Pay your debt
You can manage your credit card accounts through online banking and mobile app.
To pay using the website:
Log in to your Online Banking account;
Click on Bill Pay;
Select Manage Pay To/Pay From Accounts if you are paying from an account with another bank. Then click Add Pay From Account and enter the routing number.
Click Transfer | Send and then Between My Accounts At Bank of America if you are transferring from your Bank of America account.
If you have the mobile app, you can pay your credit card debt through the app. Log in to your Mobile Banking app, select your credit card account and tap the "Make a payment" button.
You can set up automatic payments. To do this, enroll in eBills. Then log in to your account, click on Bill Pay and find the credit card account you want to set up automatic payments on. Click Add AutoPay in the AutoPay menu and then click the "Based on eBill's amount due date" button. Choose your Pay From account, enter the amount or submit and then set the Deliver by date. Save and get a confirmation of your payment.
If you make a credit card payment online, it will post the same day for internal transfers and 24 hours if you pay from another financial institution.
