What is known as BankSouth today is a combination of two local banks – The Citizens Bank was founded in Greensboro, Georgia, on April 1, 1946, and Bank of Union Point, was founded in Union Point, Georgia, on May 15, 1911. The bank operated as Citizens Union until adopting the name BankSouth in 2004. In February 2011, BankSouth acquired LoanSouth Mortgage, rebranded as BankSouth Mortgage, to provide greater market coverage and comprehensive products and services.
Over 75 years later, BankSouth remains locally owned and managed with board members who have served for decades to make BankSouth the leading financial institution for people in the region and across the county.
