Types of accounts

To get access to most of Tangerine's services and products you should be enrolled as a Tangerine client and open a personal banking profile. It could be individual or business.

You could use it to apply for other accounts and products, use services, make transfers, pay bills, deposit cheques, monitor your transactions and budget, set financial goals, and automatic savings, investments, and payments.

Accounts that could be opened are:

  • Savings account, TFSA, RSP and RIF, US$ savings account.
  • Chequing account.
  • Mortgage account.

    All of them might be easily managed through your computer or smartphone.

    When you use various Tangerine products, they could be connected with each other and get benefits. For example, if you link your credit card to your savings account, you may choose the third category to 2% cash back and earn it directly into that account.

    Also, it's convenient to transfer funds from your chequing to your savings account and vice versa without fees. Or make the mortgage prepayments from your account.

    You must have a Tangerine profile to sign up for business accounts and should open a Tangerine Business Savings account to start working with other types of business accounts.

    How to open an account?

    1. Visit the Tangerine site and click the «Sign me up» on the side menu or under any product you want to use.

    2. You could switch to the Mobile banking application or click the «Get started» button to continue the online application. It will take you about 10 minutes to fill out the application. You need your SIN and employment details.

    3. Fill in your email address, PIN code, and promo code if you have it.

    4. Provide your personal info, SIN, contact, and employment info.

    You will get a Tangerine client number to open Tangerine accounts and log in to work with different products and use services. Enter your Login ID: Client Number, Card Number or Username, and PIN.

    You may log in for a Business account by entering your Business Client Number.

    How to reset a forgotten password?

    You can't reset a Tangerine account password. There is a Client ID and PIN which should be entered correctly in the form to log in.

    If you've forgotten your login details, you can reset them online by answering several questions for personal identification. Hit the «Forgot Login ID» or «Forgot PIN» links from the Login page.

    Call Tangerine client service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-888-826-4374.

    How to delete an account?

    You can close your account anytime by calling the toll-free telephone number 1-888-826-4374. Where there is no money in your account and there has been no transaction for six months, your account may be closed by the bank.
