About company

The history of the Public Service Credit Union started in 1936. This cooperative financial institution has been known as Public Service Credit Union Limited since 1978. In 2006 PSCU opened its membership to all residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.  

The credit union serves over 4,700 members with about $78 million in assets under administration. PSCU offers loans, mortgages, registered saving products, investments, savings, chequing, online, mobile, and telephone banking.

  1. PSCU is an innovative credit union: the second in the province to give the member access to its ATMs and the first in the province to launch the iPhone app (followed by the Android app). 

  2. You need to be a credit union member to get access to services. The membership is open for any resident of Newfoundland and Labrador.

  3. Public Service Credit Union provides services through a vast network of charge-free ATMs, online, mobile, and telephone banking, in-person you may visit only one branch in St. John's. However, other credit union branches in Atlantic Canada are all connected for easy banking during traveling. 

  4. PSCU supports community development through different types of activity: loans to owners and small businesses, investment in community projects, sponsorship of community activities, etc.

Products

  1. YOUR Chequing is an interest-bearing account for everyday spending with a low monthly fee.

  2. Your Chequing Unlimited offers unlimited transactions for a fixed monthly fee with tiered interest rates. 

  3. YOUR Savings accounts offer low-interest and slightly higher rates - up to 0,05% - with a larger minimum balance. In addition, no monthly fee is required: pay for each transaction. 

  4. Personal loans with no penalty extra repayments in any amount anytime, available to apply online. 

  5. A registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) Loan lets you purchase your RRSP with a loan from a credit union. Terms from 12 months to 5 years are available. 

  6. Tax-free Savings account (TFSA) options are 1 — 5 year TFSA Term Deposits or TFSA High-Interest Savings Accounts. 

Services 

  1. Chequing accounts with different monthly fees for unlimited or electronic transactions, US Dollar, children, and youth accounts.

  2. Savings are tiered accounts with no monthly fee with an interest rate earned according to a minimum balance—a special Payroll Savings Plan for employees via automatic deduction with no cost for early withdrawals. 

  3. Credit cards with cash back, travel rewards with Mastercard benefits, and US Dollar cards with included insurance and flex rewards are provided in the partnership with Collabria. 

  4. Lending: personal, vehicle, RRSP loans and lines of credit, home equity lines of credit, and closed/open mortgages with flexible repayment terms and online pre-approval. 

  5. Payment protection for loans, lines of credit, and mortgages with life, critical illness, and disability coverage (involuntary loss of employment coverage for a mortgage) as an option.

  6. Investments: RRSP, RRIF, RESP, TFSA, and Term Deposit options with a minimum of $500, Qtrade Investor online brokerage platform, and Mutual Funds offered through Credential Asset Management Inc. 

  7. PSCU Financial Management assists in investment, retirement, tax, trust, and estate planning in partnership with Credential Financial Inc.

  8. Business banking services: accounts, credit cards, commercial loans, mortgages and leasing, Group RRSP. 

  9. Online and mobile banking provide a full suite of financial services: fund transfers and bill payments, cheque deposits, account opening, access to balances and history of transactions, etc.
