Mainstreet Credit Union is a financial cooperative in Southwestern Ontario established as a result of the merger of two credit unions — Unigasco Community Credit Union and Sydenham Community Credit Union. Today, the credit union has 14 branches across Southwestern Ontario and $560 million in assets under administration.

Features

Mainstreet Credit Union is a democratically governed financial institution run by a leadership team and a local board voted by members. All members who bank with the credit union are its part owners. In addition, Mainstreet Credit Union has an annual profit-sharing program in place. In 2021, the amount shared with members and communities exceeded $1 million.

Who owns Mainstreet Credit Union?

Each member of Mainstreet Credit Union is its part owner. Member owners can decide how the credit union is run by voting for the board of directors. In addition, credit union members take part in the annual profit-sharing program and get rewarded for banking with Mainstreet Credit Union.

Is Mainstreet Credit Union legitimate?

Mainstreet Credit Union is a cooperative financial institution owned by members and governed by a member-elected Board of Directors. To ensure the protection of members’ interests, the credit union follows the Code of Conduct for the Credit and Debit Card Industry in Canada.

How to become a Mainstreet Credit Union member?

To apply for a membership with Mainstreet Credit Union, you need to book a meeting with an advisor. You can choose to attend an appointment in person, by phone, or through a video call. Are my funds safe at Mainstreet Credit Union?

All eligible deposits held in registered accounts have unlimited insurance coverage through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA). The maximum coverage for eligible deposits held in non-registered accounts is $250,000.
