Types of Servus savings accounts
Servus Credit Union Ltd. offers a range of savings accounts.
- Youth Plan 60 is a banking account for anyone younger than 17 with a zero monthly fee and 60 monthly transactions included. In addition, it features unlimited Interac e‑Transfers®, one free non-credit union ATM withdrawal, and 0.1% interest earned on all balances.
- Personal Savings Account is a no-fee account with one free monthly transaction included and an opportunity to earn 0.01% interest on all balances. If you open a personal savings account in U.S. dollars, you can earn 0.05% interest. Once you have used one free monthly transaction included, each subsequent transaction will cost you $1.50.
- High-Yield Savings Account is a no-fee account with one free monthly transaction and an opportunity to earn 1% interest. If you open a High-Yield Personal Savings Account in U.S. dollars, you can earn 0.25% interest. Once you have used one free monthly transaction included, each subsequent transaction will cost you $5.
- Business Savings Account is a no-fee account for business owners with no free transactions included. Accounts opened in Canadian dollars earn interest at a 0.55% interest rate and accounts opened in U.S. dollars — at a 0.10% interest rate.
- Business High-Yield Savings Account is a no-fee account for business owners with no free transactions included. Accounts opened in Canadian dollars earn interest at tiered interest rates ranging from 1.65% to 2.05%, while accounts opened in U.S. dollars — at rates ranging from 1.55% to 1.95% interest rate.
- AgriInvest Savings Account is a no-fee account for agricultural business owners with one free monthly transaction included. An AgriInvest savings account features a 1.00% interest rate on all balances.
How to open a Servus savings account?
To apply for a personal savings account, click the “Open an account” button on the account description page and proceed with an online application form. Be ready to provide the following information:
- The reason for choosing Servus
- Whether you are "politically exposed" (foreign or domestic) or the head of an international organization
- Whether the third party will use the account
- Whether any of the applicants are tax residents of a jurisdiction other than Canada
- Whether you need a joint account
- The purpose of using the account
- Your personal information (including your title, gender, first name, middle name, last name, date of birth, and social insurance number)
- Your email
- Your phone number
- Whether Servus Credit Union will be your main financial institution
- A challenge question to use as identification with Servus call center and an answer to it
- A 5-digit Security Number
- Your address
- Your employment information (including your position, industry, occupation group, and the occupation itself)
During the application process, the system will offer you to snap a photo of the barcode on the back of your driver's license or ID card.
After you provide all the required information, click the “Submit” button to complete your application.
To apply for a business savings account, click the “Apply” button next on the account description page and fill out the form with your first name, last name, email, and phone number.
Requirements
To qualify for a personal savings account, you must be an Alberta resident or live within 75 km of the nested Servus Credit Union branch. You must also be at least 18 years old and have a social insurance number.
Applicants below 12 must provide a parent's signature for a debit card when applying for Youth Plan 60. Applicants older than 12 can open a Youth Plan 60 account without a parent.
Opening a business savings account requires you to own a business.
When opening a savings account, be ready for the membership costs of $1 per account holder transferred from your first deposit into Membership Equity Shares.
