About CIBC Aventura® Visa Card

A CIBC Aventura® Visa Card by CIBCis a no-fee credit card allowing you to earn Aventura travel points when making your everyday purchases. This credit card also features valuable insurance coverages and gives you access to travel assistance services with no booking fees.

New applicants have a welcome offer allowing them to earn up to 2,500 Aventura points for completing certain activities. 

CIBC Aventura® Visa Card features

A CIBC Aventura® Visa Card features a 20.99% purchase interest rate and 22.99% cash interest rate (21.99% for Quebec residents). 

Using a CIBC Aventura® Visa credit card doesn’t involve an annual fee, and you can issue up to 3 additional cards for authorized users at no cost. 

New applicants to a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card can get the advantage of the welcome offer and earn up to 2,500 Aventura points after completing the following activities: sharing your email with CIBC, registering for eStatements, adding an authorized user, holding an eligible CIBC Chequing Account, and adding your Aventura Visa card to your mobile wallet. Each of these activities is worth 500 Aventura points.

A CIBC Aventura® Visa Card offers regular reward-earning opportunities along with the welcome offer. For purchases made with your CIBC Aventura® Visa Card at merchants classified by Visa as “grocery stores,” “service stations or automated gas dispensers,” or “drug stores” up to $6,000 annual limit, you can earn 1 Aventura point for each $1 spent. After you reach the $6,000 yearly limit, you will earn rewards for purchases in these categories at a regular rate (1 Aventura point for $2 spent).

For every $1 spent on travel purchased through the CIBC Rewards Center, you will earn 1 Aventura point.

For every $2 spent on other eligible purchases, you will earn 2 Aventura points.

You can further redeem your Aventura points towards the following: 

  • Up to 100% of the cost of airfare and taxes and other charges on airfare purchased through the CIBC Rewards Center

  • Merchandise shopping through the CIBC Rewards catalog of over 1,000 items

  • Promotional offers from Aventura

  • Online auctions offering unique trips, events, and merchandise

From time to time, CIBC announces special offers for sending money abroad through CIBC Global Money Transfer™. With such offers in place, you can Aventura points for making international money transfers. CIBC Global Money Transfers involve no transaction fees; only CIBC foreign exchange rates apply. In addition, CIBC won’t charge interest on a CIBC Global Money Transfer, provided you pay your balance by the payment due date.

Additional benefits provided by a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card include:

  • Saving $0.03 per liter when purchasing fuel at participating Pioneer, Fas Gas, Ultramar, and Chevron gas stations, given that you present your Journie Rewards card or app

  • Merit Travel Group Inc. provides Aventura Travel Assistant services with no booking fees

A CIBC Aventura® Visa Card is eligible for CIBC Pace It™ Installment Plans. CIBC Pace It™ allows you to pay off your purchases of $100 and more in monthly installments at a lower interest rate:

  • 4.99% for a 6-month plan

  • 5.99% for a 12-month plan

  • 6.99% for a 24-month plan

Setting up an installment plan of your choice involves a one-time installment fee equal to 1.50% of the purchase amount. 

Insurance coverages included in a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card card are auto rental collision and loss damage insurance, $100,000 common carrier accident insurance, and purchase security and extended warranty insurance. In addition, you can add optional CIBC Payment Protector™ Insurance for Credit Cards to ensure coverage of your credit card payments in case of disability, job loss, critical illness, or loss of life.

How to apply for a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card

CIBC accepts online applications for a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card. To apply for this credit card online, click the “Apply now” button on the credit card description page. Then, click “Yes, sign on now” if you are a CIBC client already and sign in with your CIBC Online or Mobile Banking login credentials. If you are new to CIBC, select “No, continue application” and fill out the application form with the following information:

  • Your first name

  • Your last name

  • Your date of birth

  • Your email

  • Your phone number

  • Your address 

  • Your living situation (rent, own/buying, live with parents, room or board, or other)

  • How long you have lived at the specified address

  • Your social insurance number

  • Your job category

  • Statement options

  • Your personal annual income

  • Your other household income (optional)

  • Your housing payments (monthly rent, mortgage, and condo fees)

Applying for CIBC Aventura® Visa Card requires a minimum annual income of $15,000.

What types of spending are eligible for earning Aventura points?You can earn Aventura points for making purchases with your CIBC Aventura® Visa Card card, excluding returns. However, cash advances, CIBC Global Money Transfers™, interest, fees, balance transfers, payments, regular CIBC Convenience Cheques, and Aventura Points redemptions don’t qualify as eligible purchases.
Who provides insurance coverages included in a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card card?The company providing insurance policies included in a CIBC Aventura® Visa Card card is Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada. The company providing the optional CIBC Payment Protector™ Insurance is the Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company (Canadian Premier).
Do Aventura points expire?Normally, Aventura points earned for purchases made with your CIBC Aventura® Visa Card card don’t expire. However, select airlines may impose fees, restrictions, or other conditions on air travel. If you don’t redeem your Aventura Points for 60 days after you voluntarily close your credit card account, CIBC will cancel them. In addition, in the event of the primary cardholder's death, CIBC will also cancel the Aventura points within 12 months.
